(3-4-22) Effingham, IL – The Effingham County Health Department (ECHD) is saddened to announce another COVID-related death, the individual was in their 90s and unvaccinated. This death brings the total number of confirmed COVID-related deaths in our county to 130.
ECHD also announces 27 new cases of COVID have been reported from Friday, February 25 through Thursday. March 3. Breaking down the cases over those 7 days; only 22% of cases were up to date with their vaccinations, 63% were completely unvaccinated, while 15% were not up to date with their vaccinations. Reinfections accounted for 11% of all cases, of these 66.6% were not vaccinated, 33.4% were not up to date with their vaccinations, one of the reinfections was a third-time infection.
The Illinois Region 6, 7-day rolling test positivity was down to 2.2% through February 28, with Effingham County at 3.2% for the same period. ICU availability in our region is up to 35%.
ECHD reminds residents that free drive-through rapid Antigen and PCR tests are now available Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 2 to 3 p.m. at 1904 South Banker St. in the old oil change place in front of the Village Square Mall.
No insurance is required for these free tests.
